“Once you crack the script, everything else follows.” – Ridley Scott
An Opportunity of a Lifetime.
The Write Project Film Fund was created for the specific purpose to promote the development and production of professionally produced filmed entertainment in Africa for exhibition internationally.
The two largest film industries in Africa currently contribute a total of $1 billion to the continent’s annual GDP. Nigerian film generates close to one million jobs, while the South African industry generates over 21,600.
Independent filmmakers face numerous challenges in financing and distributing their productions. The main goal of The Write Project is to boost Africa’s entrepreneurial creativity in the film industry by creating new jobs as the continent prepares for massive demographic waves. Our objective is to bring film investments and film projects to Africa, encourage the production of professional audiovisual works and promote international co-production.
Filming in Africa
Africa’s vast landscape has leant itself to a number of film productions in the past. The regional disparity between lush vegetation and sandy plains provides filmmakers with a range of choices, enabling them to set scenes amongst the many differing types of backdrops here.
Movies recently filmed in Africa include Invictus, Blood Diamond, Safe House, Dredd, Mad Max: Fury Road, District 9, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, The Maze Runner: Death Cure, Lord of War, Blended, Monster Hunter, Chappie, Tiger House and The Kissing Booth 2.
- You certainly get your bang for your buck in Africa.
- You can build entire sets for much cheaper than in the US or Europe.
- There is also the appeal of no unions.
The Write Project Film Fund is budgeted at $30 million annually.

Short films are not inferior, just different. They often contain an originality, a creative freedom, an energy and an invention that is inspiring and entertaining.
One of the amazing things about documentary is that you can remake it every time you make one. There is no rule about how a documentary film has to be made.
TV is a responsibility, not only in entertaining people, but using this medium of television in positive ways to teach people and enlighten people.
